More about Reflexology and Raindrop Therapy

Reflexology is an ancient art with an Egyptian pictograph being the earliest evidence of it’s use. Many believe the Chinese originated reflexology, while it is also known the Native Americans also practiced reflexology.

Reflexology, therapeutic foot massage, is a holistic healing technique.

There are over 7,000 nerve endings on your feet. Eunice Ingham, the Mother of Modern Reflexology states: “The nerves of our body may be likened to an electrical system.” Every part of the body is operated by messages carried back and forth along neural pathways.

Reflex areas of the feet correspond to all organs, glands and systems of the body. By applying pressure on specific points and massaging crucial areas, blocked energy is released and the entire body is brought back into a state of balance.

Raindrop Therapy is an application technique using a sequence of essential oils. The oils are applied to the spine reflex of the feet. Essential oils are highly concentrated natural plant extracts. They have a lipid-soluble structure, which makes it possible for them to penetrate the skin and enter the blood stream. Essential oils have healing properties on both the physical and emotional level. The powerful medicinal value of essential oils is only now being rediscovered by modern medical science.

The History of Essential Oils

Our greatest knowledge about essenti#al oils comes from the Egyptians. They discovered how to use the oils in healing ways. They represent man’s first medicine. The Greeks also used aromatic oils for both physical problems as well as for psychological conditions like anxiety, depression and hysteria. They used aromas to create conducive atmospheres for spiritual, intellectual, creative and romantic activities.

Anointing with essential oils was practiced by many ancient cultures such as the Egyptian, Christian, Greek and Romans. The act of anointing literally meant to touch with an ointment. The ointment would be composed of one or more essential oils in a vegetable oil base such as olive or almond oil. It is believed that the ancients understood the antiseptic properties of essentials oils. The casting out evil spirits was references to killing germs, bacteria and viruses with the use of essential oils.

The use of aromatic oils spread across Europe in the Middle Ages. Their use continued and by the early 1900's medical aromatherapy became a new specialty.

By the 20th century scientists found they could produce synthetic drugs more cheaply than they could produce therapeutic grade essential oils. The result is powerful drugs which can cause serious side effects.

Today the anit-viral, anti-bacteria and healing properties of pure therapeutic grade essential oils are being rediscovered by medical and scientific community.

If an essential oil is going to be applied to the body or inhaled, then it needs to be of the highest quality to achieve the desired healing effects.

There are many essential oils now available in the marketplace. However, the quality of the oils sold in stores is often not therapeutic grade. Therapeutic grades of oil require proper distillation processes as well as attention to growing, harvesting and distribution. Look for 100% pure therapeutic grade on the bottle and know the company that you purchase them from.
