Welcome back to the In the Clouds, the Cloud Hands monthly Newsletter.  This week we're finally getting a taste of spring after a long and dreary winter.  Seeing the first green shoots popping up and the flowers that are soon to follow is such a wonderfully exciting time of year, a time when we are reminded why we put up with winters in Bucks County.  The spring is a time to reconnect with nature, get outdoors, and do some good for the planet.  Earth Day is a great day to recognize the importance of our natural environment and give back to the community

Earth Day was started in 1970 by US Senator Gaylord Nelson to promote awareness of environmental issues.  Seeing pollution and environmental deterioration as immanent problems, Nelson felt an urgent need to educate people about critical condition of the planet's ecosystems.  His vision was to organize a national teach-in day, where Universities would set aside one day every spring to spread the word about environmental concerns.  On April 22nd 1970, approximately 20 million Americans participated in the first Earth Day.  Thousands of colleges organized protests concerning environmental declination and pollution.

Today Earth Day is recognized worldwide in over 150 countries.  It is a day to appreciate and respect our environment.  Many local communities gather on this day to clean up the neighborhood and recycle old household items.

Below are the details for local township cleanup days.  Stop by your local township building on the designated cleanup day to get trash bags, a safety vest, and a road assignment.  The township will then pick up trash bags on the roadside.
